Legacy Children's Center is Hiring a Preschool Assistant Teacher Near San Luis Obispo, CA

We are a growing center that focuses on providing a high-quality environment for children to learn and grow. We value the importance of play-based learning and social-emotional development along with incorporating nature and playing outside as part of the daily curriculum. We are located inside Legacy Training Center and are very fortunate to offer a unique mixture of traditional classroom curriculum and lots of gross motor play and development in the gym.

Job Summary

The teacher's aide will be responsible for assisting with the academic, social-emotional growth and development of all children attending the Children's Center. We are looking for someone with classroom experience who is available to work Monday-Friday afternoons. This is currently a part-time (about 25 hours/week) position with a strong possibility of becoming full-time.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the Director, assume responsibility for implementing a quality program for children, ages 2-5 years old.
  • Work as a team with other teachers in multi-age classes
  • Fill in for any situations that might arise in the classroom
  • Help teach the children in
  • Keep a clean and organized environment
  • Attend an evening staff meeting and/or training as needed
  • Able to take direction
  • Able to communicate effectively
  • Follows schedules and directions, and assists in lesson preparation, cleaning, and all other aspects of childcare.
  • Management of children in the classroom, outdoors, in the preschool gym, during gymnastics classes.

Position Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 6 units in Child Development/Early Childhood Education (or in the process)
  • CPR/First Aide certified (to be completed before first day)
  • Mandated Reporter Certification (to be completed before first day)
  • An overall positive and professional disposition
  • Comfort level with learning new computer systems, experience with Procare a plus
  • Ability to make decisions on behalf of children and protect their well-being
  • Must be able to manage confidential information
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds and in case of emergency a 40-pound child
  • This position requires successfully passing a Livescan background check, before the first day of employment.

Physical Requirements

  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Physical agility to lift 50 pounds to shoulder height. Any items that weigh more than 50 pounds will require two or more people or a lifting device to move.
  • Physical agility to lift, carry, push, or pull objects.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in English
  • Fluent in Spanish a plus
  • Any background in gymnastics and/or coaching is a plus

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 25 – 40 per week
